52nd Samsung I've bought, don't know why I haven't bought more...
By C. Clark
Ok, here's a little shout-out for this printer. I'm a die-hard HP LaserJet fan in the office setting, but I picked one of these up at a big box "depot" store two weeks ago $119.99. It's the 2nd Samsung I've ever bought, with the 1st one being about 7 years ago. I was looking for a small laser printer for my home office, and was about to buy the HP LaserJet Professional P1102w for $99.99. But then I stumbled across this one for $119.99. Being $20 more, I was a little hesitant, but a quick Amazon search revealed that the consumables for the Samsung were much less.

So, I bought it, brought it home, and within about 3 minutes, had it unpacked, plugged in, and linked up with the wireless network. It's not a speed demon, nor does it have auto duplex, but it does print fast enough (19ppm) and prints come out looking sharp. And it's very quiet - it sits in power save mode until you print, then it immediately goes back into power save mode as soon as you're done. Sure, that slows down the first page out time to about 5 seconds, but that's a small price to pay when quiet = being able to easily concentrate.

The next day the "depot" store had it on sale for $69.99, so I showed them my receipt and got a $50 credit to my card for the difference. I would have bought it here on Amazon, but I needed it that day to do some work from home.

Anyways, if you're in the market for a small laser printer, this one (so far) is a sure bet!

4Affordable Little Laser Printer
By AnotherWindowsBlog
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2RVRKBIFL41QG [Above is a small video clip of this printer in action]

I got this printer for the amazing price of just $49.99 and it absolutely rocks! Being that I don't print often, I was sick of having clogged and dried up ink cartridges in my inkjet printer. They cost a lot of money to replace and it just wasn't worth the hassle. With this Samsung laser printer, I don't have that problem anymore. Toner particles don't dry like ink over time so I can leave this printer turned off for an extended period of time knowing that when I do have to use it, the toner display bar wouldn't mysteriously be cut in half.

Quality
Not much to say on print quality. If you've ever seen a printout from a laser printer before, then this printer is right up that alley. Nothing special, nothing fancy. It just gets the job done. Personally, these cheap laser printers are great for printing out reports and other things that contain mainly of words and tables. Of course, it will also print pictures and whatnot but don't expect it to rival that of black inkjet printers. For that, you'll need a much more expensive laser printer than this one. For the price I paid for this, it's worth every penny.

Maintenance
Laser printers don't usually require a lot of maintenance like inkjet printers unless you have a defective model of some sort. These laser printers can print thousands and thousands of pages before anything needs changing. The best part is, a lot of problems you experience from a laser printer can be remedied by simply changing the toner cartridge. However, this is not true for every printer model. Besides keeping the unit clean of dust and whatnot, I'm just going to let this printer sit on my desk until I need to use it. The bad part to this is I will have no idea whether or not the printer I purchased is defective or not. By rarely using the printer, it won't undergo a "stress-test" of sort. Other users complain that their printer go bad after only a couple of weeks. That's a good thing in this retrospect because they at least now know to return it or to fix it. As far as changing toner cartridges go, it's as simple as lifting the printer cover up, removing the old cartridge by pulling on the handle and inserting the new one in until it snaps into place.

I'm reading users having difficulty setting up this printer on their wireless network. I hardly can believe this because the process is so simple!

1. Run the setup program you've downloaded from Samsung's website or from the included CD. Rather than selecting Install Now, you're going to click the Wireless Setting and Installation link instead.

2. Your printer will then begin picking up all the wireless connections it can find and display it back to you. Your home wireless network should be in this list!

3. Once you have selected your wireless network, it will then ask for the wireless network key.

4. Next, you'll confirm the settings. By default, the printer will use DHCP to obtain an IP address for itself. This is OK in most situations. If you want to, you can assign the printer its own dedicated TCP/IP settings by clicking on the Change TCP/IP button in this window.

5. Next, you'll confirm the printer connection.

6. In the software installation screen, be sure to install the printer driver. You can optionally choose to install the Smart Panel application as well.

For such a low price, I am absolutely satisfied with this laser printer. The printer is so small, you'll hardly even notice it. I am being dead serious. My desk is already small as it is and so this printer was perfect bundled next to my laptop. For such a low price, I was even shocked to learn that it had wireless capabilities. I now no longer have to power up my laptop first (which would be plugged in via USB) before other computers in my house can use it! They can all instantly print to it.

5WOW, great little printer.
By Tommy J
I had heard about cheap laser printers, but was skeptical. I finally got fed up with the ink jet crap of very expensive cartridges that seem to plug up often.

I read up on Lasers and decided on the Sammy. I avoided HP because the company is in trouble and didn't want to get stuck with an unsupported printer..

The instruction book was good, but tiny print hard to read. There is a copy on install disk, easier to read. DON'T MESS WITH THE WIFI BUTTON UNTIL YOU READ INSTRUCTIONS OR DO INSTALL PROGRAM...

The WIFI was icing on the cake... Notes on WIFI.
The sammy comes with a AD-hoc connection (no security)just a plug in go set up. I did not use it....

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT, be sure your installation computer is attached to the network by a wifi connection. DO NOT use a computer that is wired (RJ45) to the router unless you are not using PRINTER wifi connection..

Note: be sure to write down the net security set up from your router to avoid errors before you start. Also NEVER touch the wifi button on the printer during installation process. The install program takes care of that...

My home net is WPA2 personal using tkip+AES. So I installed the wifi using the neat disk installation program.

1. plug in the usb cable and power, make sure the usb cable is tight in the printer end. The usb plug on printer is a bit loose fitting...

2. Turn on printer with paper loaded (do not touch the wifi button).

3.When install program comes up, choose the wifi option to install. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB CABLE UNTIL INSTALL PROGRAM TELLS YOU.
4. The install program brings up available networks. Choose your home net. Do not mess with the AD-hoc networks if they are shown.

5. next install screen is to enter your net passwords. Be very careful of the cap keys...

6. the next screen shows the net values picked up from your router. Jot them down for future ref. If all is well keep going.

7. the program will scan for the printer.

8. when printer is found carefully follow directions to remove the usb cable...

9. Install rest of program (driver and control programs).

After installation, when you power up printer the wifi blue light will blink and when connected turn on solid. No need to touch the WIFI button...

The printer works great. It makes a gentle hum and spits out the completed page before you know it.. What a change from the bang, bang zip,zip slow screeching print of an ink jet. A color laser is only about 100 bucks more. Yeah the cartridges are expensive (~~ 128), but they don't dry up.

The sammy goes into power saving mode when not in use. The print defaults in light mode to save the cartridge. The control program of printer can change it to a darker mode. The replacement cartridge runs about 50-60 bucks. From what I have read, best avoid off brands...

Windows 7 loves the printer. I had to update the printer list on older win 7 system (button on printer install screen). My win vista worked ok but not as friendly as win7. I have an old XP machine used for taxes. I don't see any problems. I think I will down load the driver from Samsung. I don't want the control programs on that computer.

Love my little Sammy, if it runs well, will be looking at a Sammy color in a few months and dump the ink jet junk.

Update: Dec 4, 11..
The printer is working perfectly. The networking is very reliable. It is so nice to be able to print without having to share a printer on another computer, (major pain in the *ss).

It is fast and very quite. Most ink jets sound like a corn harvester...
I do a lot of printing and there is still a lot of cartridge left. Samsung controller program works nice.

I don't miss color a bit. The printouts are very clear. It prints beautiful black and white photos
from color snaps... I use the inkjets for color when necessary (if the darn ink cartridge is not dried up)... Inkjets make good paper weights and money burners; that is about all they are good for....

1Think twice before buying sharp products
By Concerned Consumer
Sharp Electronics AL-1642CS Digital Laser Copier/Printer with 2nd Paper Tray.

This product arrived with a broken toner cartridge, although sharp replaced it free of charge. That is the only nice thing that I could say about Sharp. A big problem I had with this machine was its frequent paper jamming issue that resulted in wasting at least 20% of the paer fed to the machine. By the time I managed to call the customer service, I narrowly missed the warranty period and the associate told me I have to ship this huge thing at my own cost and then pay all repair bills my self. I know lot of reputed companies like SONY repairs their products free of charge, if the warranty period is narrowly missed.

I somehow managed to use it with one paper tray that worked fairly well. However, things became worse when I bought a new Vista Laptop. I was able to make my Lexmark multi function deskjet printer and my Brother multifunction laser printer at the office to work smoothly with the vista machine by using updated drivers that could be downloaded easily from the respective company web sites. However, after spending a lot of time at the Sharp support site, I realized that sharp doesn't consider the AL-1642CS Digital Laser Copier/Printer as a printer. I was able to locate the driver under copiers and download the driver. However after installation, there was only the following printer models available for selection to add.

AL-1651CS, AL-1661CS, AL-1556, AL-1566, AL-1655CS.

That is AL-1642CS was not listed. Subsequently, after spending close to an hour with a customer service representative reinstalling the software, we couldn't make it to work. Even though that representative told me he will give me a call after figuring out how to make it work, I never received that call. After about six months I once again tried the Sharp site today, hoping that they might have rectified the situation by now. I downloaded the drivers from [...] The site gives the following information.

Print Driver and Scanner Drivers for select AL models
Models: AL-1530CS, AL-1540CS, AL-1551CS, AL-1641CS, AL-1642CS, AL-1651CS, AL-1655CS and AL-1661CS.

However, after installing the driver, I still do not have AL-1642CS listed as a printer for adding to the printers collection. I located the folder where the files are updated and found sc1bjenu, which is listed as a setup information file. In that file only the following models are listed, which is why the other files are not available for selection.

Model1="SHARP AL-1661CS"
Model2="SHARP AL-1651CS"
Model3="SHARP AL-1556"
Model4="SHARP AL-1566"
Model5="SHARP AL-1655CS"

Sharp do not provide any information for the installation of these files. If the driver above doesn't work for AL-1642CS, why are they listing it under this driver and why they are not providing a suitable driver for this printer. This is a very irresponsible behaviour that is not expected from a multinational company like Sharp. I would think twice before buying any Sharp prducts.

5Great printer copier but no driver for Windows 7
By Mandy Nel
I have owned this printer/copier for over five years and never was disappointed once with it. A little noisy but has worked flawlessly. I installed it on a desktop and then printed from other computers by network through that main computer. My biggest disappointment is that I have gradually replaced the computers in my home with newer ones and, very unfortunately, Windows 7 does not support this printer/copier. There is still one XP connected to the printer but compared with the heavy work it was doing before, I can say it is literally gathering dust where it is now, waiting to be used, and with near-ful toner. I have since purchased Brother MFC 9840, which is color but much slower to print first copy. I am unhappy with Sharp because of lack of continuous support, but the machine itself is great. 5 stars for the machine, 1 for Sharp.

4Good machine
By Anyah B. Martinez
I like this product a lot. I bought it for our office and it's great to have a central printer. The toner and drums are really expensive though. And it's a little slower than I would like.

5BEAUTIFUL PRINTS, EASY SET UP
By JADEV
Purchased the Samsung Electronics CLP-365W and was initially hesitant since it is newly introduced to the market. Overall, very satisfied with the color prints.

Item was delivered two days after making the purchase.

Set up took less than 5 minutes. In fact, it took longer to take the item out of the packaging than to actually install the drivers and set up the wireless printing.

NOTE: When you plug the printer in initially, especially with Windows 7, decline the automatic driver set up through Windows. Install using the included CD, otherwise you'll have duplicate printers.

Print quality is amazing. I watched a few youtube videos regarding their new software and toner technology. It certainly is worth the amount I paid. Colors are vibrant, edges are sharp, and paper is not curled (as they advertised!) after printing as with most lasers. Colors come out solid with no streaking or additional residue.

I previously had a Brother MFC and this printer is light years ahead of it. Print speed is comparable to most color laser printers.

Since it is a new printer, there is yet to be available OEM toner cartridges. Toner will come to about $150 for the set (CMYK).

Plus: Downloaded the Samsung printer application for the iPhone and iPad and was able to print directly from those devices. Advantages of a wireless printer!

Downsides: Printer does not have a LCD display for errors on the machine. Errors in printing are posted on your computer. What type of errors did I get? Printing on 32 lb paper seems to jam once in a while. 28 lb paper works perfectly fine.

Switching between legal and letter sized paper is a breeze. No need to manually feed it. There is no manual feeder on this printer.

UPDATE 8/14: 32lb paper doesn't jam any more. It was an initial concern but has been resolved. Printed about 150 sheets on the heavier stock with no glitches. Quality remains clear, consistent and precise. Changed my review from 4 to 5 stars. Although the equipment has limited functionality (only prints color and black/white, is not multi-function printer), it does exactly what it is meant to do and very well.

3Starter cartridges under performed
By GeooeG
I replaced an older Samsung CLP-315W with this printer. The installation and setup was a breeze. I was not happy that the starter black cartridge reported empty after printing just 179 pages instead of the quoted 700+. This printer is almost identical to the previous versions with the exception of new cartridge designs. I am anticipating it will have the same issue ... imaging drum will "time out" at 16000 "impressions". In my experience, this is a forced replacement strategy on the part of Samsung because the pages printed just before the imaging drum times out are perfect.

I am also not as excited about this model because Samsung is not selling bundled cartridges at a discount. With the 315W, I could purchase a 4 pack with all colors + black at a discount over purchasing individual cartridges. With this model, I can only find the cartridges sold as singles. So, this will be a bit more expensive to operate.

UPDATE: 09/16/2013

I am already looking to replace this printer because the magenta is bleeding all over any color printout. I have had periodic issues where the printer refuses to print and lists an error message. I can fix it by removing the cartridges and fiddling with the waste toner container. I consider this printer to be a bit of a lemon.

4Crisp colors, easy setup, could be a little faster
By Eh Schlesinger
Got my 365W from Newegg as there's currently a 3-5 week delay when ordering from Amazon, unless you use a 3rd-party reseller. Shipping was as quick as Amazon Prime though!

Installation was fairly easy on my home network, which has a combination of Windows 7 and XP machines, as well as an iMac. If you've ever installed a Windows 7 networked printer on a Mac, you probably know it can be a little technical, having to choose the right protocol on the Mac (lpd:) and entering your IP address. The on-disc manual for the Samsung 365W has very detailed step-by-step instructions for connecting the Mac to the printer wirelessly, which made it an easy process. The alternative way to set it up is to hook the printer to each computer one at a time via the included USB cable, installing all the drivers and wireless settings that way, then disconnecting and moving on to the next computer. I did this only on my main Windows 7 machine, but all the other installs were done wirelessly. The Windows installations were very straightforward using the 'add printer' utility. Make sure you've got the disk with the 365W drivers handy. If you're setting this up as a "shared" printer through another computer, then you don't even need the disk after the first install - the drivers will install automatically.

My kids printed off a few test pages, which they claimed were for school projects. Color graphics appear vibrant and sharp. Even photographic images looked decent. We have expensive "enterprise" color laser printers at my work, and while those are real speed demons for large print jobs, the colors are not nearly as good as what I'm seeing on the little Samsung. Also my work printers needed professional calibration just to get business graphics to look good, while everything I'm getting from the Samsung looks great. There must be something to Samsung's new polymerized ink, and not just marketing hype!

Plain black text also looks good, as you'd expect from a laser printer, but the Samsung does not print nearly as fast as my trusty old (and cheap) Brother. The Brother just won't die! I hope the Samsung proves to be as durable.

One minor complaint: with letter size paper in the tray, the tray sticks out a good 2-1/2" from the body of the printer. I felt the product images were a little misleading, always showing the tray fully installed and flush with the printer. I thought I was doing something wrong, then realized the tray is extendable to accommodate different paper sizes. I didn't expect letter size paper to cause it to stick out like that.

I haven't yet tried the Android or iPhone printing apps that are available for the Samsung. Nice to know they are available though.

5A Review for ARTISTS
By A very happy artist
If you are just in the market for a machine that prints in duplex, is networked, does X number of pages per minute, you have dozens of choices -- you can read through the other reviews for their comments.

But if you are a creative soul, the kind who wants to print on metallic paper, or decal, or make t-shirts and transfers and all kinds of other things that make most other printers keel over and die, this is the machine for you.

Back in the day, the old monster copy machines used fuser oil, which kept the fancy papers from sticking to the hot fuser as it heat-pressed the toner into place. When smaller machines came about, the manufacturers got rid of the fuser oil and ran the machines hotter -- a short hot fuse vs. a longer, cooler one. All those specialty papers that were developed for the old machines would just melt onto the fuser roller. And soon those companies started making their larger machines the same way.

Most artists I know solved this problem by finding a dirt old copy machine that they nursed back to health every time it broke down. But consumables are scarce, and the old machines are getting harder to find and maintain. Manufacturers of specialty papers developed workarounds with inkjet products, but they just aren't as good. Up until now, the ONLY alternative I had found was an adapted OKI Data machine in the seven thousand dollar range. The Samsung CLP-680ND is a godsend.

Here's why it works:
The 680ND (only the ND, btw) has a very low fusing temperature. I am told that the fuser temp. is between 55-86 degrees F, although the manual says it's around 325 degrees for 0.1 second when it fuses. (I called Samsung twice before purchasing -- both times was told that the lower number IS the fusing temperature on this model, even though it is listed as the "operating temperature" in the manual. They said the manual covers other models in this line. I'm not entirely convinced that they understood my question, or why I was asking, but even in the 325 range it runs very cool. I think most home printers are in the 385+ range.)

The reason why it runs cooler is because it uses polymerized toners. Picture toner particles encased in wax. It doesn't need to be as hot, the colors are very vivid, and it actually gives it more of a glossy look than regular toner. Again, this is ONLY the ND model.

So far I have tried a variety of papers and labels and decals, including taping smaller pieces of specialty papers to regular printer paper to see how they fared. I'm very impressed at what it can handle, and the colors are spot on. When you read the specs, you can tell they really did design this model with artists in mind. They did it right. I don't normally write reviews, but I want them to sell so many of these machines that they never discontinue the consumables, so I can keep creating for a long, long time.

5Good quality work horse
By Tetsu Noguchi
I have had the distinct pleasure of watching the industry change with hands on experience through the decades. Back in my advertising days, I remember spending millions of yen (tens of thousands of dollars) on the latest and greatest super high tech Canon color laser printer, with a separate tower computer sized postscript rasterizer and a mind-blowing 128MBs of RAM.

Since then, I've owned lots and lots of HP printers, a few Brothers and Canons here and there, and a smattering of Epsons.

Most recently, about a year or two ago, somewhere in there, I was at Fry's on the hunt for a new printer because the full duplex HP2200 network printer I had was falling apart and jamming constantly, even after doing the full roller upgrade.

Until this latest breakdown, I never considered it a big deal to spend $2K+ on a rock solid printer, but while I knew inkjet would be unacceptable for my uses, I deeply loathed the idea of spending that much on a printer again.

Walking around, I was surprised to see this printer from Samsung, having never known that Samsung made printers.

Generally, if you include:
- Full Duplex Printing
- 4 color laser
- High resolution
- fast B&W printing

all in a single laser printer, the mechanisms are not designed to be able to last very long. A printer with these features under $1K? I'd have guessed maybe a year tops at a thousand pages a month.

But the design of this unit is uniquely geared towards longevity, parts that are well integrated to mitigate failure points and jamming. After reading about it online, specifically the unique stacked vertical drum mechanism designed for easy toner replacement and as a method to minimize page curling during the duplexing pull back, I figured at $399 (now $299 on Amazon), it was worth giving it a try.

Perhaps my expectations were low, but this printer has amazed me month after month. These days, my four big print job types are: contracts, proposal presentations, sow's and project outlines, and rfp's. For these types of projects, I need fast black and white printing, or do lots of collated color printing. Some months as little as 100 pages. on rare months as much as 3K pages.

In the photo, you can see the front door. This is an ingenious design as the side that is facing you is a pull down door, much like a kitchen oven would be. And the toner cartridges are essentially stacked, so it's easy to select the one you want to replace, pull it out and pop in a new one. There are paper tray extensions you can get, but this isn't strictly necessary.

The software driver, of course, includes options for how you want to print, and automatically calculates where to adjust the margin for two page printing, depending on how you want to bind the pages and where you want the matching margins to be. The toner measuring dialogue box is separate and be accessed any time.

The printer is also easy to set if you want to manually configure anything, because of the display and navigation buttons. You can assign a static IP if you like.

Some of the tech features are missing. It doesn't support AirPrint, it doesn't have a WiFi client built-in, the configuration controls are somewhat limited. But overall, what it needs, it has, and it works consistently well.

The shocker for this printer is that it works as advertised. After well over 15K pages, and a toner replacement or two, this printer has proved to be what I wish every printer I ever owned was. It has all the features you'd want in a printer. It prints fast in B&W, the resolution is very good, color prints are not as good as photo printers but much better than color laser prints from high end printer systems just 10 years ago, it never jams....and I mean NEVER jams, the toner is stupid easy (and clean) to replace, network printing is a breeze (from Windows and OSX), with tablet printing through print sharing, and most impressive....every other printer I ever owned or used started having little issues here or there, that over months or years, started showing up in parts breaking down and causing all kinds of printer frustrations and delays, but this work horse just keeps on working. After more than a year, I can honestly, surprisingly, accurately state that there has been zero jams....not a typo....zero jams.

In fact, what inspired me to type this review is that I'm about two thirds through printing out 1500 pages worth of RFPs, printing in sections, double-sided, full color. Though I print in sections to make sure I can put dividers between sections, I have yet to have a single error. printing this much a decade ago would have been a 10-12 hour project easy. With the Samsung CLP-620ND, it's been a little over 2 hours and I'm more than halfway done. Unbelievable.

Just last month, I had to print 7 copies of a 95 page document, totaling 665 pages. That project was B&W. Not a single jam, on paper that was a little too thin for this printer, full duplex. A perfect storm for jams. Yet not a single jam.

Often, I have a lot of little niggly complaints about products I own and review. But this printer is one of the few that does everything I need it to do, has nothing that I don't need, and...well...just works.

Do I have any complaints? Well...it's not an MFC, and for most small businesses or consumers, that's a deal breaker. But MFCs often have a variety of issues because of their sheer mechanical complexity.

For the money (and if you can afford the space), it's very hard to argue with the quality and reliability you get with this printer at a cost that is a fraction of what was common pricing just a few years ago. $299? Really? $299? For a printer this rock solid?

What more can you ask from a printer?

4Beautiful prints, Windows/Mac differences though
By S.E. Poza
This printer is clearly designed for the office market or for a user who needs a solid color printer for business. Because of that, it is large, heavy, and the consumables are comparatively expensive when you look at a consumer-level inkjet. It includes postscript printing capability so you can print EPS files cleanly, though I believe it is interpolating and not true postscript since it seems to take longer to print postscript files. For business, especially if you need to do charts and graphs or print razor sharp text, this does a great job. I tested it out on several charts and graphs and they were all exceptionally sharp and showed fine detail in pie charts with textured wedges. The output is beautiful, crisp, bright and detailed. Photos that I printed showed fine detail on small images of faces and good color range. I printed a variety of photographs which included both close-up and distance shots of faces. Even the far away shots showed good detail on small faces. The sort of posterizing or loss of fine detail that you sometimes see in cheaper printers was not an issue. Still, this is not for creating professional prints for sale, but it does very nicely for general business and home use as well as proofing of art.

Prepping the printer is relatively easy. There are numbered picture-based instructions (no manual except one included on the CD) which walk you through how to remove the various tabs and protective bits of tape and how to prepare the toner cartridges. The toner drawer feels a little flimsy, but the printer already weighs 51 lbs. so I'm not sure added weight for a sturdier case would be worthwhile. It's not as if one needs to be opening and closing it frequently, but caution when handling it may be warranted. If you catch it on something, it will likely chip, crack, or snap.

In regards to installation, I used this printer with two different versions of the Windows OS (XP and 7) and with Mac OS 10.5.8. On Windows XP and 7, it is a dream to install and use. You install the drivers from the included CD and it's pretty much good to go with wireless printing right away. A print manager is also installed so that you can change preferences or track toner use/replacement. Samsung clearly did a good job prepping this for Windows.

On the Mac side, things did not go so smoothly and that's why I knocked a star off of the rating. While I could use this with my Mac, I could only do so using a USB cable. I could not get the wireless connection to work no matter what I did. I should note that this may be my version of the Mac OS (10.5.8 is an older version) and that I have the same problem with a Canon inkjet wireless all-in-one that I sometimes use and had a similar problem with an HP all-in-one that I temporarily used. I can print, but only when hard-wired with a USB cable, and it's also important to note that this Samsung printer does not come with said cable in the box. This is somewhat annoying since, even if you can get the wireless to work on your Mac, you are required as part of the installation to temporarily connect via USB (this is not the case on Windows). If you've got a Mac, you might want to make sure you have one on hand or purchase one concurrent with the printer.

The cartridges will print between 1500-2000 pages depending on the amount of color/text used for the pages. While the replacement cartridges from Samsung are expensive, you can get lower priced ones from a third party for as little as $80, though I imagine using them may violate the warranty. While even $80 per toner cartridge seems pricey, you can replace them selectively (there are separate cyan, magenta, yellow, and black cartridges). If you're considering a laser printer like this which is expensive or an inkjet which is cheap, it's important to consider how often you print. An inkjet's cartridges will dry out if not used regularly and will not print nearly as many pages as a toner cartridge. My rough calculation is that this will cost you 5 cents per page and that compares well to color inkjets which will cost between 3 and 9 cents per page depending on your printer (Kodak models are about 3 cents, some Canon and HP models are 9 cents). Of course, this hardware costs 3-4 times that of an inkjet, but the quality is at least that order of magnitude better. It really depends on your priorities and how great your need for a higher quality output.

The paper feed on this is very smooth and I printed only on standard photocopy paper with excellent results. It has an adjustable feed tray, but I only tested it with letter-size prints. The manual does say that it supports a wide variety of paper sizes and weights though.

All in all, this is a very nice printer with lovely output at a price point which is competitive, but not the lowest price. It's hard to directly compare as there are cheaper, smaller models which are all-in-one but are not designed to be such workhorses. Cheaper color laser printers tend to be slower, for instance. Depending on your needs, this may be a very good option, particularly if you are a Windows user.
