Think twice before buying sharp products

Sharp Electronics AL-1642CS Digital Laser Copier/Printer with 2nd Paper Tray.
This product arrived with a broken toner cartridge, although sharp replaced it free of charge. That is the only nice thing that I could say about Sharp. A big problem I had with this machine was its frequent paper jamming issue that resulted in wasting at least 20% of the paer fed to the machine. By the time I managed to call the customer service, I narrowly missed the warranty period and the associate told me I have to ship this huge thing at my own cost and then pay all repair bills my self. I know lot of reputed companies like SONY repairs their products free of charge, if the warranty period is narrowly missed.
I somehow managed to use it with one paper tray that worked fairly well. However, things became worse when I bought a new Vista Laptop. I was able to make my Lexmark multi function deskjet printer and my Brother multifunction laser printer at the office to work smoothly with the vista machine by using updated drivers that could be downloaded easily from the respective company web sites. However, after spending a lot of time at the Sharp support site, I realized that sharp doesn't consider the AL-1642CS Digital Laser Copier/Printer as a printer. I was able to locate the driver under copiers and download the driver. However after installation, there was only the following printer models available for selection to add.
AL-1651CS, AL-1661CS, AL-1556, AL-1566, AL-1655CS.
That is AL-1642CS was not listed. Subsequently, after spending close to an hour with a customer service representative reinstalling the software, we couldn't make it to work. Even though that representative told me he will give me a call after figuring out how to make it work, I never received that call. After about six months I once again tried the Sharp site today, hoping that they might have rectified the situation by now. I downloaded the drivers from [...] The site gives the following information.
Print Driver and Scanner Drivers for select AL models
Models: AL-1530CS, AL-1540CS, AL-1551CS, AL-1641CS, AL-1642CS, AL-1651CS, AL-1655CS and AL-1661CS.
However, after installing the driver, I still do not have AL-1642CS listed as a printer for adding to the printers collection. I located the folder where the files are updated and found sc1bjenu, which is listed as a setup information file. In that file only the following models are listed, which is why the other files are not available for selection.

Sharp do not provide any information for the installation of these files. This is a very irresponsible behaviour that is not expected from a multinational company like Sharp. I would think twice before buying any Sharp prducts.

Great printer copier but no driver for Windows 7

I have owned this printer/copier for over five years and never was disappointed once with it. A little noisy but has worked flawlessly. I installed it on a desktop and then printed from other computers by network through that main computer. My biggest disappointment is that I have gradually replaced the computers in my home with newer ones and, very unfortunately, Windows 7 does not support this printer/copier. There is still one XP connected to the printer but compared with the heavy work it was doing before, I can say it is literally gathering dust where it is now, waiting to be used, and with near-ful toner. I have since purchased Brother MFC 9840, which is color but much slower to print first copy. I am unhappy with Sharp because of lack of continuous support, but the machine itself is great. 5 stars for the machine, 1 for Sharp.

I like this product a lot. I bought it for our office and it's great to have a central printer. The toner and drums are really expensive though. And it's a little slower than I would like.
