Superb prints, solid printer.
By Gregory Peterson
I've had my z5200 for about 18 months now and it's been great.
I just finished making a set of 48 prints for a gallery show. They range from 24X36 to 40X60 and, except where I've screwed up in some way (e.g. crinkling the leading edge of a paper roll as I loaded it) they have all been perfect.
For the show, and for all but the three 40X60 in prints, I'm using Epson Exhibition Fiber paper. Using its built-in spectrometer, the printer was able to create a profile for it with just a few mouse clicks. The three 40X60 prints are going to be mounted on foam core so I didn't need the extra weight of the Epson paper. For them, and for many other prints I've been making, I'm using HP Everyday Pigment Ink Satin which, while a bit thinner than I'd like (235 GSM), produces brilliant colors and rich blacks at about half the cost of Epson Fiber. (It was, I'm told, created specifically for the "z" series printers.)
I think that anyone who owns a large format inkjet printer will agree that inks are too damn expensive. I calculated that, in the 300 ml cartridges, I'm paying more than $1500.00 a gallon! But, as it turns out, this is cheaper than both Epson and Cannon inks. And having large cartridges, combined with some excellent software that keeps you apprised of everything going on in the printer, means that you can churn out many hundreds of square feet of rich, highly detailed prints without having to worry about running out of ink all of a sudden.
Just so this doesn't come across as a puff-piece, there are some things that I wish they'd change:
Roll paper loading must be done from the rear. This means that the printer has to be pulled out from the wall to do the deed. Not a big deal (I'm 72 and have no trouble moving it) but I'm sure that it could be easier. There is no paper tray to hold pre-cut sheets. They have to be loaded one at a time, which slows things down considerably. The little LCD screen is just that: LITTLE! And it's monochrome. And some of the front panel buttons are too small and the markings are very hard to decipher. These things probably won't bother you bright-eyed youngsters (under 50), but we old farts find them quite vexing.
Quibbles aside, this is the first of the dozens of printers that I've owned that I really love. (Not as much as I love my dog, but still...)
I'd be happy to answer any questions about it: Gregory-Peterson@comcast.net

I bought this product for my business and had no space for it, when finally I had space (1 month later) trying to installing it did not work, cause the power supply this damaging. The Seller (on sale) was not responsible for it because had already been 30 days. then I go to HP technical support and after a month mi plotter still useless because the Tech support is REALLY inefficient do not recomend bought this product.
