Does what it should

Bought this printer for a private office that needs duplex and color in a small footprint. Works nicely with Mac and Windows, even has an Android app for printing. Scanning is fast, colors are nice, printing is fast, duplex works, installation of printer and scanning was automatic on windows and mac, no drivers needed. Its pretty small for duplex color. The toner replacement system is much better than average, only replaces the actual powder and recycles the package (sending back of old cartridge is paid by lexmark). Great for we use it for, coming from a Samsung (no duplex) and Oki (larger and hard to install) color laser MFP.

Not overly impressed

After my recent positive experience with the excellent Lexmark MS810dn printer, I decided it might be a good idea to get a color laser printer with copy and scan functions in the front of the store.
After doing some research, I settled on the CX310dn from Lexmark.
This is actually a pretty decent printer, and these are the things we like about it:
1) The color quality is very good.
2) It's easy to scan directly from this printer to any of the PCs on our network. Because of the way the scanner works, multiple users can submit scan jobs at the same time and it will just scan items as the users come to the printer and select their name. It really is a pretty cool setup.
3) It is compact and doesn't use up a lot of space.
Unfortunately, the negatives probably outweigh the positives for us and it looks like we'll be switching to another model in the Lexmark lineup to replace this printer. Here are the issues we've had:
1) This printer only has a simplex sheet fed scanner - and we absolutely require a duplex scanner since we scan so many government documents. We have high speed dedicated scanners setup where they're needed the most; but, this printer was supposed to fill the gap for the remaining users. I will admit that this is probably my fault for not realizing it was only a simplex scanner; but, the spec sheet on the Lexmark website does show a duplex scan speed - which is confusing.
2) The print speed is pretty slow. Once it gets warmed up it works OK; but, it only goes for a few duplex pages and then stops to cool down again. I've had color lasers in the past that did the same thing - so it must have something to do with the color.
3) The sheet fed scanner is loud and sounds like it's grinding. One of my employees was going to take it apart to put grease on it...
4) The paper input capacity is pretty small. This is something we could live with, and we were fully aware of it; but, it is something to keep in mind.
5) The toner capacity is also pretty small - which we were also aware of before purchasing.
At the end of the day, we decided to put this in the back for color-only printing and we picked up a Lexmark MX410de instead. It still hasn't come; but, I have pretty high hopes for that newer model.
Overall, I would recommend this printer if you're in a low-volume environment and absolutely need color on the primary printer. In our case, we decided the color wasn't important enough to overcome the other weaknesses of the printer; but, other users may have a different opinion. If you are looking for color, then I would highly recommend going up one step to something like the Lexmark CX410de or even the Lexmark CX510de since those both bring some additional features to the table (like a duplex sheet fed scanner).
