it just works

I can't recall how many printers i've had over the past 20 years, but this is the only one that met my expectations. I want it to hook up easy, print, print nice quality pics, and thats it. I dont want to think about my printer, or buy $50 cartridges every year cause they dry out, or any of the other problems that plague printers. Inkjet is dead, long live the simple laserjet.

I find this rather strange

I find it rather strange from this vendor somehow this has a five star rating, when the same printer from Amazon has only three stars. I do own this printer and fond it to be so slow, that it's rarely put to use. I ran across these reviews while looking for a toner cartridge for my P3005. I would suggest to anyone considering this printer you read other review pages before purchasing. I am reposting my review here for others, I just cannot believe that HP has made drastic improvements on a printer released four years ago without changing the model number.

I've owned this printer for just over two years. When I saw it for under $250.00 my hope was it would perform at least as well as the HP LJ1200 it was to replace.
I have to say it's a bit disappointing.
Takes forever to warm up, just over two minutes from the time I click print until I received a finished page; I have timed this more than once. Even when printing in black and white. I print a lot of shipping labels, at two minutes each, that's twenty minutes, just to print ten pages.
As others have reported, envelopes ...well just forget it. And yes I do know how to use the setup. I've waited ten minutes (timed it) to print six envelopes. Just trying to get envelopes to feed is a real test of patients. Once you do get them to feed, it prints two or three envelopes and goes back into a two minute warm-up - calibration. So frustrating.
I have not had the same problem with card stock as others have reported providing you use the proper settings, and don't over load the tray; it does the job (slowly)
I have had success printing pictures. Both 8 x 10 and 4 x 6, I believe others have had problems because they don't read the manual and take the time to set the printer properly.
If you are looking for an inexpensive Color Laser Jet to use only once a while for pictures or a must have color page then you'll probably be okay. But if you require an amount of efficiently you should probably looking elsewhere.
Speed is a big issue and comparing this to the old HP work horses it just doesn't make the cut. It appears that HP has left out the "JET" in this Laser Jet.
