5HP OJ 7610 Wireless Color Printer Scanner Copier Fax
By Sylvia A.
I suspect this is a brand new product. It arrived in record time, in perfect condition. It was easy to unpack, assemble and set up. I connected via USB port with no problem. The quality of print is exceptional and the printer has had no problem interfacing with my computer and the stuff in there from my previous HP printer (a 6-year-old dinosaur). The color is excellent. It does a great job on photos, spreadsheets, you name it. I also like the energy efficiency of this printer. So far, it does not seem to be an ink hog. The start-up cartridges did actually give me the number of copies estimated. This little guy is a real workhorse. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a great printer for home or small office. It also does just fine on heavy paper, card stock and regular 20 lb paper. What's not to like???
Just for the record, I don't do tablets, i-anything, berries or wireless whatevers; just straight-ahead slow mo dial-up. Yeah, there's still a few of us out there.

37610 potential issue to watch for
By E. Mirro Jr.
My new 7610 seems to do everything right except print on 4x6" label stock. It starts printing way up off the top of the page. If you have a 7610, maybe you should check it with 4x6" paper. It may be a design defect, or it may be that my unit is defective. I don't know yet.

The user's manual for this unit is in the Help file on the enclosed disk, which you can copy to your hard drive and place an icon on your desktop.

The help section of HP's website is a disaster. Links that don't work, search feature that is nearly useless.

Edit 9/24/13: I got a replacement 7610. It also can't print on 4x6". So I will try an Epson WF-7510.

If you want to preserve your sanity, don't call HP tech support. Just return your printer to the retailer.

Edit 9/26/13: The Epson WF-7510 prints 4x6" labels perfectly. I never heard back from HP tech support. It's been 4 days since they "escalated" my issue.

5Does everything!
By P. B. Sharp
It should be noted that this fine hard -workng printer does NOT have duplexing ability (printing on both sides of the paper). Most artists would probably not want to print their artwork on both sides anyway. and this printer is great for banners, etc. If you must have duplexing, it can be bought separately for $50.00 from HP.

The 7610 is HEAVY- 44 pounds in the box and an older person may need some help getting it out of the box and setting it up. People who salivate and get excited waiting for their goodie to arrive will be glad to know my 7610 was at my door in four days. The machine is easy to set up, even for a mechanical klutz like me.

*7610 comes loaded with HP 932 Black and the three colored cartridges, 933 Yellow, Magenta and Cyan.
*Power cord, phone cord (but not USB cord)
*CD ROM
*Set-up poster-instructions
*Getting started Guide

The directions say you can print sizes from 3X5 to 13X19 but I have not used the smaller dimensions. One reviewer complained the machine would not properly print 4X6 cards.

The scan bed glass is 11X17 and you can cover that area in one pass.

The document feeder is automatic and will hold up to 250 in the paper tray. The printer will tell you how many papers your current ink supply will accommodate.

The color buttons on the printer cover all desirable functions, the work flows, simply navigate. It's all right there at your fingertips.

HP ePrint allows you to print from your smartphone or tablet from almost anywhere (well, maybe not from the moon), using wireless direct printing.

The 7610 is an energy-saver. You can preset this e-all-in-one with Schedule ON or Schedule OFF. The directions say you can conserve 40% in energy.

I have found, with the exception of black, which doesn't matter, it's better not to use generic colored inks rather than genuine HP ones. If you buy the HP replacement cartridges online you can get a discount or a coupon or some perk.

HP's slogan is :"kick it up a notch." I think you'll find the 7610 All-in-One does just that!

3Centering Issues
By I.A.
The listing incorrectly states this is Wireless/Scanner, but if you are buying a $1700 printer, you probably know the specs already. The unit I received from Amazon came beat up. I think the box is not enough protection for the horrors of UPS moving around a sensitive 90lbs package. The print quality was amazing, however it didn't like ImageClip Laser Light Heat transfer paper so much, all other paper, including the extremely heavyweight A3 photo paper (Graytex only manufacturer of this) worked like a charm.

However, nothing would print centered, and the centering differed by 2mm between the Multi-Purpose Tray, and the default tray for light papers. The x-adjust, and setting margins were of no use because of this. I spent 3 solid days trying to solve the problems before returning it. Oki's customer support is the best, and it is easy to get through to them and speak with someone natively North American after only 10 seconds and 3 options. There is no automated voice purgatory with Oki.

The best guess from support was that it could have been damaged in shipping, and this seems to make a lot of sense. It was a nightmare for me, and support trying to figure out all the conflicting information. It was hard at first to determine if it was a hardware or software issue. One good benefit of buying an Oki is that the told Apple to politely f-off when it comes to their driver update monopoly through the Mac App Store. With other manufacturers, notably Epson, you cannot downgrade or play around with the drivers once Mountain Lion updates it. This is because the manufacturers don't want you using 3rd party inks, and the updates usually are just to break this functionality. They remove the older drivers from their site, and unless you saved the older drivers (and the hidden files), you are screwed. With Oki, you have the opposite problem. You have different driver versions released at different times throughout the world. So when testing my issues, I installed newer drivers, and older drivers for the model from other Oki country sites. This helped troubleshooting a lot.

Unfortunately the problem was the same in XP, Vista, OSX 10.8.5, and OSX 10.8.2. It did not matter what driver or OS, it printed 7mm too far to the right, and 4mm too low. This is outside the X and Y adjust firmware tolerances which can account for only -2mm and +2mm. Of course setting the margins in the software works, but you experience weird clipping bugs sometimes, and it just makes for a miserable experience. It would be possible to deal with, except that the MP Tray and the Default Tray were both doing different things despite having perfect alignment when fed (I tested them thoroughly).

Other caveats of this model...They only ship it with 256mb of ram, which is standard for this class for printer, but it is an annoying attempt at a cash grab. You can upgrade the ram from Oki to the max for $200, or on the after market for $80, but there is no guarantee via the latter method for this model. This doesn't come into play at all if you are printing vector stuff, but if you are printing raster posters you are not going to be able to print anything more than 150mb file. This means you need to save all your tiffs as jpegs. At A3 size, this is not going to make a difference in quality if you save a tiff as a maximum quality jpeg, but it's another step you need to take if you want to print. A 250mb tiff compresses to about 25mb for a maximum quality jpeg.

Also, again, it is not wireless. You have the option of cat-5 or usb. Wireless connectivity would be nice with a beast like this printer. It is extremely compact for its class, but it does take up some room. Not having the flexibility of wireless is not a plus. It also only does A3 size, which is less than other printers in its class which can do .31 inches wider at 12x18. There aren't too many products sized 12x18, but there is photo paper, and there are some heat transfers. If you are printing transfers, flyers, or posters, every millimeter matters. I don't know of any wider format laser printers, at least that cost less than a new car. If they had one that was 24 inches, I would say "Shut-up and take my money" even if it were $25k.

Verdict: If you are looking for a good color laser printer, this is probably it if you can find one that prints bang on the money. Xerox prints too hot for, transfer papers, HP is all gloss for the n00b user, Samsungs aren't made for pro's in mind, and Ricoh is probably the only real competition in this <$3k color laser class.

Can't wait for my replacement to come, and I hope UPS doesn't roll it off a cliff this time! Would be 4.5 stars if it printed perfectly.

4Awesome Printer, But read this if you have a MAC!
By E. Tran
This is one awesome little printer. I got it as an upgrade from my old Samsung laser Printer that was not wireless. Now, I thought my old Samy laser printer was compact and small. But this little guy is really the size of a large shoe box. It's crazy how small these things are getting. The Pages print out smooth and flawlessly in black and white, just like my old one. Doesn't make a sound until it's called upon to print. I had no issues with setting up the physical printer machine. That part was completed in 5 minutes flat. The windows installation was a breeze. Just pop in the CD, select the windows setup executable and follow the install steps. I wanted wireless printing, so I had to go through the install steps that required my network name and password key. I was printing my test page from my WIndows laptop in about 10 minutes.

Now for the reason why this review did not get 5 full stars. The installation steps for the Macbook were almost non-existent from the manual included with the printer and they were actually inaccurate from manual that was downloaded from the Samsung site. Furthermore, There seems to be no option to install from the Macbook via Wireless Access point (utilizing the existing home network). Every time, I tried to install the software from CD on my Wife's Macbook, it never provided me a option to do a wireless access point install like the Windows installation on my Windows laptop. So after reading through the Online manual, which was way better then manual in the box, and reading through some Mac forums where there users describing their experience as a nightmare to setup wifi printing with this very printer model, I was about to give up. But then I tried the following steps below and it worked! Though not via Access point, its an Ad-Hoc direct wireless printing setup, which was fine by me as long as it worked. If I had knew this method which was not described in any of the manuals, it would of take me the same time as the Windows install, but instead, it took me 30 minutes..:) Hope this helps the Mac Users!

How to setup wireless (AD-HOC) Network printing with a MacBook and Samsung ML-2165W Printer.

1. Setup the physical printer machine according to manual. Then connect it your Macbook via USB. Make sure the printer is powered on and verify the Macbook is powered on with wireless network Access.
2. Insert the supplied software CD and double click on the CD from your desktop.
3. Double click and execute to Mac_installer folder >Installer OS X icon.
4. Complete the license agreement and installation steps.
5. This will be a standard install without the wireless option. This is your only option. You will not be given a chance to do the wireless installation like in the Windows version install.
6. Enter in the admin password to install the software.
7. Once the software confirmation screen pops up to confirm your installation was successful, proceed to DISconnect your USB connection to you Samsung Printer.
8. In case you missed it, Disconnect the USB connection between your Samsung printer and Macbook.
9. Navigate to Applications > Utilities >Print Setup Utility (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7) Navigate to Applications > System preferences > Print & Fax.
10. Click Add on the printer list (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7, click the PLUS sign) and new display will pop up.
11. On the "Default" Tab of the pop up display, select or highlight the Samsung printer. In the printer name column, it should be listed as "Samsung ML-2160 Series (NNNN)", then in the Kind column, It should be listed as "Bonjour"
Note: DO NOT select the Samsung Printer with the "USB" in the Kind column. This Samsung printer - USB option should only be selected if you intend to print from USB.
12. Click ADD, then select continue to create the print queue.
13. Now open up any word document with text and print a test page.

Enjoy!

2Worked for a while!
By R. LaRue
This is my original 5 star review, see below for sad update:

I've had this Samsung 2165W monochrome wireless printer for just a few hours and here's what I know so far. (I'll post updates later when I have more experience.)

First of all, the price ($59 plus shipping) was very appealing, and delivery was super fast to my house (in Virginia) from Amazon's supplier.

There's not much in the box, and not much to assemble. You just pull off a couple of tape and packing pieces and snap in the exit tray. The toner cartridge is already installed--you just take it out, shake it up, and put it back in. No tabs to pull, etc.

The machine itself weighs almost nothing, and takes up about the space of a shoe box. Once installed, it needs only a power cord to serve all the computers in the house. It sleeps silently, and once awakened to print, it does so quickly, and with no more noise than any other printer. Then it goes back to sleep at once. So it's a very unobtrusive house guest.

Set up and installation is fairly easy. I am a clever DIY'er, and not afraid to wade into something technical; but I'm no IT tech by a long shot. But if you, like me, are happy to follow instructions and try something else if they don't work, you'll have little trouble. Here's how it went for me. YMMV.

I was expecting to have to connect the printer to my wireless router with an ethernet cable. But the printer doesn't even have a port for one. (Maybe that's what wireless means? Like I said, I'm no IT wiz!) I was also expecting it to provide it's own connection to my network (also a silly assumption, I guess.) Instead, for each computer in the family (we have 4) I had to connect it to the printer with the supplied USB cable, and insert the installation disc in the drive. I have a Cisco Valet wireless router; but it behaved oddly when I asked it to install the printer, so I gave up using the Cisco Connect program at all. The printer didn't mind a bit. Once connected to a computer (which has already been connected to the home LAN) the Samsung just found the correct network by itself. It did ask me to supply the network security key (whatever that is), but Cisco gave that info up to me easily enough on its third screen. From that point, it was just a matter of pressing all the NEXT buttons until the printer was up and running. At some point it tells you to remove the USB cable, and then the software finishes doing its wireless thing--with an occasional request for you to push the NEXT button, or make some simple and obvious decision. (I denied all requests to let it connect to the internet for registration and automatic updates, and resisted all other inducements to let Samsung spy on me. I'm not paranoid, just ornery!)

The installation software hung up and crashed once on three of the four computers, and always in a different place. But starting from scratch the second time always worked. So, in the end, I'd have call the installation a fairly easy gig.

Print quality is laser excellent, and now that anyone in the family can print from his or her laptop anywhere in the house--for $59 bucks--I'm as happy as a pig in mud.

I'll let you know how reliable it turns out to be, how many copies you get out of the toner, etc. But right now, it's looking like a darn good deal to me!

Update and down-rate: This thing has lost contact with all our computers, and no amount of rebooting or reinstalling will get it on-line. It is now only a hardwired printer for one laptop. Down-rating to 2 stars.

5great deal
By CS Brittingham
I bought this printer for $49 shipped from 'newegg' and I am one very happy camper. Easy set up, easy interface, prints quickly. Very simple.
I have a netbook (no CD drive) so had to download the required driver from Samsung's website, but this took only a few minutes to download and install.
I am using it with USB cable, not with wireless, and that functions just fine.
You can't go wrong with this in the $50 to $70 range...

5Fantastic photo printer
By Patrick C. Miller
I bought the Artisan 835 to replace an HP C6280 that I'd had for about three years. Initially, I liked the HP printer. According to QualityLogic.com, the C6280 is one of HP's most economical printers in terms of cost of ink per page. However, I found that when it came to printing photos, the C6280 was hit and miss. Sometimes with a some experimentation, I could get a decent print. Other times, I'd give up in frustration after several tries. I also got inconsistent results with the C6280's scanner, and I found HP's software increasingly bloated and difficult to use.

I decided to get an Epson Artisan after reading what digital photographers said about the quality of its photo prints and looking at some samples prints at a local store. I was somewhat wary of reports that the Artisans were "ink hogs." Although I've used HP printers for many years, I was willing to give Epson a try. I've been very satisfied with my decision.

Setting up the 835 was a breeze. I have it networked to three wireless laptops, two wired desktop PCs and a wireless desktop PC. I was pleasantly surprised that installing Epson's software was fast and easy. The first test I performed was making a 4 x 6 print of a photo that I'd never been able to get quite right with my HP printer. To my amazement, the 835 produced a flawless print on the first attempt without any adjustments. I immediately tried some other prints, including a few 8 x 10s. Only in one case in which an image was not properly cropped did I feel the need to make more than one print. Printing photos is now a joy.

I found the scanner fast and easy to use. The scanning results are also impressive. The ability to create and print labels for CDs and DVDs is a welcome capability. The fax, duplexer, document feeder and PictBridge port (which can double as a USB charger) are useful features. The touch screen menu is very intuitive.

Although I think the Artisan 835 is worthy of five stars, it's not perfect. The paper drawer is flimsy and the simple act of properly aligning paper in it can be a pain. In printing two-sided documents on plain paper -- even when using 24-pound paper -- the ink sometimes bleeds or shows through. If document printing is your primary use, you might be happier with an HP printer. The 835 is a large printer, so make sure you have plenty of space before you buy it.

The most important thing I've learned is that when it comes to photo printers, "ink hog" is a relative term. Although the cost of prints produced by my HP C6280 are slightly less than those printed with the Artisan 835, the fact that I can almost always produce a high-quality print on the first attempt makes the overall cost of the 835's ink far less. For digital photographers who want an all-in-one that produces fantastic prints, the Artisan 835 is tough to beat.

3EPSON 835 GREAT PRINTER BUT TERRIBLE PAPER HANDLING
By E. Norton
I have had several printers made by Epson, Canon and HP and never had the difficulties I have had with this machine with paper handling. The design of the paper handling tray is terrible. It is awkward to load and constantly spits out several blank sheets along with the printed copy even after fanning the paper before loading. At times it picks up one of the 4 x 6 photo paper in the photo paper tray even though it is suppose to print on the 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. It won't print thicker (64 lb) sheets or on file folder stock (the other printers had no problem). It does print well when these problems don't take over. It drinks up ink (expected) but must be replaced after 6 months. It can cost as much as $95 to replace the ink cartridges from Epson. Their tech service people are very difficult to understand and there is usually a long waiting period to talk to someone and you pay for the call!!!! I have owned Epson product before but am really disappointed with the 835 because of the above.

5Amazing
By A. Stroup
I am not a computer expert and usually something goes wrong everytime I buy something to add to the computer. I bought this machine two days ago and followed the provided instructions to hook it up and install the software. Everything went perfect, no hiccups. Today I decided I'd copy a colored 4 x 6 picture. I put it on the scanner and used the touchscreen to set up the printer, no problems. I pushed start and away we go! In no time I had a beautiful copy of the photo. It is so simple to use its amazing. Trust me, if I can do it anyone can. This is a machine, not a household printer. I always had HP and decided to try Epson because I have a home theater projector that is flawless and professional. I will never buy another brand. This machine is heavy duty, not some cheap household lightweight junk. You will be amazed if you buy one, in a good way. The HP is going on Craigs list tomorrow.
