Works great with my POS!

The only reason I'm not giving it a 5star is because of the instructions. They are horrible, DO NOT FOLLOW THEM, instead read the reviews you will get a better instruction on how to setup this printer. It is a great little printer for the money and the thermal paper for it is fairly inexpensive. Make sure you purchase the thermal paper at the time your are purchasing the printer, because the paper that comes with it will be just about enough to print the test page.

This is how I installed it:

Step 1: Hookup the printer to you computer, but DO NOT TURN IT ON.
Step 2: Install the print driver software labeled on the disk as POS58 and when it prompts you to select the PORT - Scroll down list and choose the USB001 port.
Step 3: Before selecting next, power on the printer and select next. Its all set. Go to the printer (POS58) properties and print a test page.

Now that I finally have it configured correctly it seems to work fine, as long as I make sure I feed a bit of paper after each receipt tear off. If I forget, it jams and I have to reprint. Annoying but workable for the price.

Good printers but not OPOS compatible

Epson's OPOS system is outdated and undoubtedly a total pain but anything OPOS-compatible generally works despite installation issues. These printers are not OPOS compatible and require rescripting of software to the point where it's just easier to buy the Epson TM equivalent. It's a shame since the POS-X touchscreens are great but from a development standpoint these are not the way to go. As printers, they work just as well as the Epson models so if you're writing software from scratch it may not be such an issue, depending upon the other components you're using.

Perfect for small Millwork Shop

This printer is being used to print maybe (2-10) 24" x 36" drawings a day, and I gotta say, it's fantastic. I had a printer company come out and quote me a used B&W laser printer for $4,500.00, saying that it'll be cheaper in the long run. Honestly? I can't imagine I'd be buying $2,000 worth of ink in the next 10 years, and that doesn't even account for maintenance on the used machine or laser toner. Plus, this machine does beautiful full color if I need it. For Arch D shop drawings, this machine is perfect.

The information about this particular product was lacking -- so let the buyer beware. I purchased it because this printer is supposed to be LAN capable. But, upon arrival I discovered that it has no ethernet port! I had to pay to return the item, plus I am still waitng for my refund, which will be at lest 15% less than I paid because I (gasp) opened the box. I will not purchase from this company again.

Good Printer, BAAAAD Documentation!

I bought this printer recently and, despite poorly translated instructions in the manual, I installed it under Windows 7, but only after some detective work. The manual gives a completely wrong explanation of how to install the driver. To do it right, you need to open the mini-CD that ships with the printer, open the Driver subdirectory, open the POS58 subdirectory (since this is the 58mm wide printer), then double click on the executable driver installation program. From there, follow the prompts, but be sure you know which USB port you will use.

CAVEAT: If you print a test page, it will print the standard Windows 7 test page, so be prepared for A LOT of that tiny roll of sample paper to print, when you have the USB port selected correctly. Otherwise, once it starts, turn the power off to conserve paper and purge the printer buffer.

Once I got this part of the installation right and figured out that it has 30 printable columns without text wrap, I was good to go! My local Sam's Club has 24 rolls of 58 mm thermal paper (85 feet long) for less than $10, so it should be fairly economical! Or you can but it from Amazon.com....

Although it doesn't print in a condensed font and I'm still trying to figure out how to print a graphic on the tape for each receipt printed, I like it. Best part: I didn't pay $180 for a name-brand receipt printer, so I think I got a good value. Except the documentation. I want a rebate for that! LOL

Exactly what I expected.

I know that many wrote reviews saying it had problems... I know because I read them. I am attaching pictures. I buy alot from amazon and rely on the reviews heavily at times. I am taking the time to write this so others will have the knowledge as well:

Short version - It is a 58mm 2.25" thermal receipt printer, much like what prints a CC receipt. I am using windows 7 and had next to no problems installing and working.

Hookup the unit, but DO NOT TURN IT ON.
Install the print driver software labeled on the disk as POS58 (assuming 58mm) and when it ask you to select the PORT - use the drop down list and I choose the USB001 port.
Before I hit next, I then turned on the printer, which was connected, and hit next. Loaded successful. Then went to the Printers list in the Start Menu - Choose the POS58 properties - Print test page and there you have it.

Prints well, and works just as I hoped.

Did not work with my system.

Bought this printer to replace an old serial printer used in our POS setup. Unfortunately it would not show up or be detected by our Quickbooks POS version 3.0.
Instructione in manual were minimal and traslated, so not much help.
Other than that, it looks to be a decent littl printer.

This works great

I have a windows xp computer and I was afraid what if this printer does not work due to some driver issue.
The package has a printer, a installation CD, an USB cable i.e. interface to computer and power cable.

I unpack the package and then powered up the printer. I then connected USB cable to my PC. My PC did recognize the USB device but didn't go for driver installation. At once I thought that now it should work. Then I put paper in the printer.
At the right side of printer there is push sign which need some pressure of your finger and upper deck will open up.
You just need to place your paper roll at right place. There is no holder so you don't need to search for it.

Now put the installation CD into cd driver.
go to printer\POS58 Driver
run setup.exe
This will setup the pos printer
If you don't run this setup you will not be able to print.
Now you can write your document/receipt in microsoft word and print it. In the print option pos printer will show.
That is amazing. I had initial difficulty in finding setup.exe but once installed it is smooth.

Got this unit in ahead of schedule to Hawaii. Great seller and fast shipping. Paired this unit with Quickbooks and it runs flawlessly. We will be getting another one when we decide to open another terminal. Can't beat it for the price.

Excellent printer and works on Android

I am writing an Android Application that needs to print using an USB printer. This printer was recognized by usbManager.getDeviceList() as any USB device without problems. This is the POS-5870 (label on bottom of printer).
Printing is clean, clear and works as expected.

Be cautious I also tried POS-5890T, that is not recognized as a device nor accessory by Android, the printers are identical in external appereance. (I wrote a negative comment on the other printer., Brainydeal SC9-2012)
