RAM Upgrade

Love the printer it works well would buy again. I did run into an issue printing large page count PDF files with the PCL driver. It would tell me I was out of memory. After researching RAM upgrades for this unit I found that Konica really believes in the RAM chip they sell at about $275 for 256 MB. Just so you know I stuck a 512 MB random notebook RAM module I had laying around and it works. Saved myself a bunch of money and now it reads 384 MB and I do not have any problems printing anymore.

No more paper jams

I love this laser printer. I replaced a cheaper Brother HL 2270DW printer with this one, as the Brother printer always had paper jams (like every 10th page).

This printer is faster, prints better quality and, even more important, has no more paper jams.

And Konica Minolta shows Brother how to build an easy wifi solution for printers. It took me less than a minute to set up wifi for all my computers with this printer. Guess what, with the Brother printer I gave up to set up wireless internet after 2 hours. It was that difficult with Brother, and so much easier with this printer.

Get this printer, if you would like a headache free printing experience. The only downside is that it is bigger than the old Brother printer, but space was not an issue for me.

Large and heavy, good tech help from Konica Minolta

I bought this because it had a decent sized 2nd tray included in the basic model, with main tray holding a full ream of paper. I print large volume documents in both legal and letter size. I didn't buy any extra features, I just wanted a heavy duty printer for 1 sided b/w printing.

It's more massive than expected. Needs 2 people to move it any distance. At least I know it won't be easy to rip off from my work office. I also had a hard time getting the software loaded and configured; the disk that came with it was unreadable so I had to download the driver software. Written documentation was scarce and it's an older model. Not truly plug and play.

I thought I'd never get it working right but then took a chance calling Konica Minolta. I have to say that the tech support was excellent...live people who were able to help me configure the software correctly and understood the issues I was having. Of course you have to wait on hold for a bit of time, but it was worth the wait. I kept working with them until we got it resolved.

The quality of the b/w print is great and it's low cost per page. I still have a few bugs with paper sizing but nothing worth calling tech support...I can override easily using the buttons on the printer. I seem to be getting a lot of "odd size" paper readings when I select PDFs to automatically detect size; so it stops the printing to ask what to do. I print both legal and letter sized mixed documents and it selects the right paper except when the conflict occurs and it doesn't recognize the paper size. I believe this has to do more with the way the documents were scanned versus what the printer is doing. It's also a little slower ppm than I expected but again, nothing bad.

so a three star for the product and a five star for Konica Minolta's tech support, this gets a 4 star overall and I'm not sorry I bought it. It was on sale and worth what I paid for it.

Bought it and sent it back

This was a great printer as far as print quality and speed... but what Minolta doesn't tell you in advance is that if you either refill the cartridge or use a non-new or non-factory cartridge, the printer goes into "deep cleaning" mode (permanently) while printing and slows down to about 6ppm. It won't go back up to regular speed unless you install a new Minolta cartridge.

This, of course, is a completely bogus excuse for forcing you to buy Minolta toner (which costs $130).

I called tech support to confirm that there was no workaround, and the woman I spoke with had received 4 complaints that morning on that issue.

So I sent it back and bought a Samsung ML-1710, which, although a little bit slower (17ppm instead of 21) can use any toner and seems like an excellent little printer.

Toner Scam

Yeah this is a pretty good printer. Like the other reviews it does a pretty good job dosen't jam much if you use regular paper, but it is a little on the loud side. I got it for $99 and was initially very happy.

Now for the scam. The printer is set up to read a chip on the toner cartridge that says how many prints that the cartridge is good for. The printer then counts the number of pages printed and arbitrairly slows the printer down till you buy a new cartridge. The cartridge that comes with the printer is rated for 1500 pages at 5% page coverage. You can also buy 3000 and 6000 page cartridges. The only difference between the cartridges is the chip on the bottom and the amount of toner/developer within the cartridge. When my cartridge reached 1500 prints the printer software said it was out of toner, it wasn't. There was clearly still toner in the cartridge and it was printing flawlessly. So what's the problem? I was in the middle of printing out a mass mailing (+/- 250 sheets) and the printer would pause for 5-10 seconds between each page taking a total of about 20-25 seconds for a page. The printer is rated for 21 ppm and it took the printer almost an hour and quarter to print everything.

After fighting with tech support over there being no scientific reason for slowing down the printer ("deep cleaning mode")after 1500 sheets while there is still toner in the available in the original cartridge I gave up. Buyer beware, yeah initially cheap but the lowest price I could find for a 3000 page toner cartridge was +/- $85 without shipping. So you pay double for toner making this an expensive printer in the long run. Do some homework and price the toner before you buy your next printer or you'll regret it like me.

Good printer, great value

This printer is great for a home user coming off of the inkjet bandwagon. It only runs off of Windows which is good enough for 85% of you out there. Cost per page is great as is the speed.

I also had the 1250W and the 1350W is basically the same thing with better constrution/looks and faster. To the guy who was complaining about the toner cartridge - yeah, you have to use the Minolta toner which is probably a load of crap but don't misrepresent the product's cost. A regular toner is around $80, about $10 more than the Samsung equivalent. The high-capacity toner runs about $120 and is almost impossible to find so I wouldn't use it as an example of cost.

FAST and simple

This is the 5th printer we have bought,and I am very happy with Konica-Minolta. We tried a HP, and it was a disaster, KM has been the best, both in B/W and their laser Color, of which I also own. It is fast, and once you get the hang of the controls and sequences, it is dead nuts great if you need volumm, and I do. Got a great price at Amazon, well below street/store pricing and the shipping was fast, secure, and it arrived in an unopened new box.

Excellent printer

I have 3 of these in my office. Haven't had a single issue with them.

I have them connected through the network, each with their own IP.

Once woken up,(I disabled sleep mode) prints very quickly; First page is printed in under 10 seconds from hitting print. I have never had a memory full message, despite printing reports with thousands of pages. Only had it jam once and it was my fault.

CPA Business and we're not impressed

Background: We hooked this baby up for our workgroup network with 4 workstations and 1 server. OS used: Win 7s and Window Server Edition

Long story short, we've encountered issues after issues with getting it to print. The hardware is 5 stars, however, the software and support center is beyond failure. Expect to be on hold for 30 mins at minimum when calling their call center.

Then, expect to rely on their web knowledge self-help website to DIY and fix it because their technician genius are useless.

What happened? - Because of its software, our network from time to time would not recognize the printer and would not print. On a good day, it would print, but if you print more than 10 pages, MEMORY FULL Message pops.

We finally solved it ourself after the technician wasn't able to. Found out, the driver that win7 installed isn't correct. After getting the official driver and update from the web, it still gives the run around.

Overall, this is too, too, much of a hassle and is unacceptable for a company this magnitude to fail to provide.

Again, the hardware is great, but cross your finger because software issue may prevent you from productivity.

Laser printing for the masses

After yet another frustrating episode with an older Epson inkjet printer, I picked this little fella up on sale.

If you just need clean, crisp, black and white printing, this is a good choice. I have had no operating concerns with it - it does what it claims to do. It isn't the fastest out there, it doesn't have the best resolution for graphics, but for my needs it is perfect.

Over the long haul, you're looking at a cost-per-page of between three and four cents, which I assume is about average.

It has separate drum and toner units (a good thing), it is relatively small and unobtrusive, simple enough to be attractive without being in any way stunning.

I give it five stars not because this is an outstanding product, but because it does its job competently without making any excessive claims about itself. Depending on your budget, you may well prefer another printer.

I use the printer mainly for professional productivity, and given my needs I expect to continue to use it for quite some time.

Good for text, bad for graphics

I bought this little laserjet to print transparencies but the output quality of the graphics is very poor even with the resolution set to 600x1200 dpi. For text it is very good, fast, easy to set up and reliable. No USB cable included which seems to be the standard now. Would I recommend it? well if you want a cheap laserjet just to print out text document then go for it but if you want decent graphics and halftones then you will have to flex the credit card a bit and spend quite a bit more. I've given my Minolta to the kids and bought a much better laserjet.

Terrible Printer - Stay Away

I've had this printer for about a year. Worked fine for the first month or two, then it started overheating after about 5 pages printed at a time. Useless Konica Minolta tech support said it's a "spooler issue" with Windows XP, which is definitely not the case. If I waited a few minutes, then printed another 5 or so pages, it prints fine... if I don't wait it will return an error. Tech support refused to RMA the printer because they said the problem had to do with my OS.
I bought another computer a few months ago and surprise surprise, same problem. You have no idea how annoying it is wasting 2 hours printing a 50 page document with this garbage. As soon as I can find a replacement for a good price I'm smashing this thing to pieces and never getting another Konica Minolta product.
