Great printer for the money

I was just about to send this printer back for the reason that I thought I was getting a photo only printer and I already have two HP printers that I use. I decided because it was such a great buy on the lightning deal to set it up. The Canon MP460 is a great printer and I'm finding myself using it as much as the HP's. The reasons: I like loading from the back, it does scans and makes copies quickly, I like the adjustments you can make on it for different paper sizes, it makes fantastic black and color copies. The only problem I have found with this printer is the door where the copies come out, the left latch won't stay closed but I've found that I can open it easy by pulling the door down on that left side. It might be a problem for someone else is why I'm reporting this. For the money it is truly a great printer!

I replaced an Epson with this Canon printer. Set-up was easy and it has functioned flawlessly since day one. I don't require highly technical function from this printer - simply scans, copies and makes nice color prints.

The "lasting impression" that I got was they don't care about their customers

Leave a "lasting impression"? The lasting impression that I got was Lexmark does not care whatsoever about its' customers.

I purchased this printer new and it was fine until it died 3 weeks later to the day. Because the printer was still under warranty I had to work directly with Lexmark customer service. Lexmark sent out a repair person but with the speed in which this printer expired I requested a replacement printer as I had no confidence that the original printer would last even a year given what happened in only 3 weeks. The Lexmark customer service refused.

In the meantime I am making daily trips to my local copy store to print the materials and those trips quickly get expensive in time and money.

So eventually Lexmark finally sent another printer. Guess what? No great surprise, it arrived broken. Hinge broken, scanner does not work and it makes such a grinding noise when printing that I cannot have a phone conversation at the same time. Lexmark customer service wanted to send out a repair person rather than replace the printer. I purchased a NEW and operational printer, not a repaired or refurbished, and I expected a new working printer.

So I have now unpacked and installed two 40 lb printers. And repacked one printer for return (not an easy task to spend an hour trying to fit printer and packing material into the box.) And I am not out two times the purchase price as they refused to send the second printer until I paid for it as well.

Oh, and did I mention, to add insult to injury, that the additional high yield toner cartridge I purchased as part of my first order came empty?

No great surprise, Lexmark and I are now at a standstill and I am in shock with the shabbiness of their customer service, not to mention printer quality. I paid for a new working printer and that is what I expect to get.

DOA

My new printer arrived yesterday. Got it unpacked and setup. turned it on, went through some initial setup...country, time zone etc. then I got a red blinking light with the error message "31.06 error. Defective imaging kit". google turned up nothing good so I called their technical support, which turned out to be quite good. The walked me through opening, removing the ink and the imaging kit and replacing it all. Unfortunately could not get all the toners back in so they are sending me a new blue toner and a new imaging kit fedex overnight. will follow up on review after receiving their new parts. Unfortunately for me I bought it direct from Lexmark or it would be heading back to amazon.....

Poor Quality

I tried out two units and had to return them both for poor quality printouts. The first unit arrived with toner (all the colors) that had leaked inside the printer. The printouts had two very light lines in the same place on all the colors. With the toner leak, I assumed that the printer was probably damaged during shipping; so I returned it and asked for a replacement. The replacement arrived with a broken tray that feeds the paper into the scanner. Since the tray is a separate piece that connects to the printer, I figured it could be replaced separately. So, I tried printing and found that the printouts had light and dark lines. The lines were not as distinct as the printouts in the first unit, but they were visible from across the room.

Bought this printer through a local business supply company. It easily connected to my home wireless network and it was simple to get our familys laptops connected. It prints quickly, almost noiselessly, and the color printing is beautiful (black and white is good too). Very pleased with it so far

a nice printer with some software quirks under OS X

This quality of the printing, scanning, and faxing from this unit is excellent. It seems to have Lexmark's robust design and construction, though I won't be able to say for certain without a few more years of use. The directions from the front panel during setup, faxing, etc., are useful. As with many networkable printers, it has a web server built-in, from which one can change major setting without any special client software. This is nice, and makes the printer in some regards 'future proof,' in that you don't need Lexmark to continue to create updated versions of the driving software in order to use the device with new and potentially incompatible OS revisions.

It does, however, have quirks. If the printer is waking from sleep, the time to first print is longer than I am used to. In an environment where the printer is used only occasionally, this may be a problem. Also, it has basically no Mac OS X software. For scanning, you have to use Apple's Image Capture program, which as of the current release does not work with multi-page scans on this printer. Finally, though you can connect it to your network via ethernet, on the Mac at least you will need to hook up a USB cable too in order to use the scanner.

Ok for lite use, cartridges too expensive

Purchased about a year ago. I don't use it a lot, but some of the MFP features are nice. However, I can get that stuff elsewhere. The real problem is the cartridges. WOW! I should have done more research. It costs more to buy a set of cartridges than a new printer. Seems they have smart chips in the cartridges to keep you from refilling them. All it does is count the number of copies and shuts your printer down when it hits the magic number.

What a ripoff. I will never buy a Lexmark again, and I will make sure I can get inexpensive refills from my next printer. I will just end up throwing this printer away if I cannot sell it. Looking at Brother printer now.

Easy set up, great quality

When I first unpacked this printer, I was a bit overwhelmed at the thought of setting it up. It turned out that the instructions were easy to follow and we were in business the first time. There is a known glitch with print quality that occurs during shipping. When setting up for the first time it is important to remove the cartridges and the waste container and clean the lenses with a lint free cloth. If you don't do this there will be lines and spaces in the printouts. I had to call customer service which took a while. There is also some documentation on their customer service website. Printing, scanning, copying and faxing are all easy and produce good quality results.
