Best printer ever - Buy it today

I don't write a lot of reviews but thought I needed to write a review of this printer. I bought this printer because I needed to print a lot of training manuals for a class that I was doing. I looked into having a printing shop print the books but they wanted to charge me almost $6,000 to print everything. I decided that I could buy a printer and the materials and have my kids do the work for a lot less. I started looking around for printers and this seemed like the right mix of speed and duty rating. I bought the printer and materials and in the end it worked out great. I printed and spiral bound around 800 manuals over a 3 week period. I used 30,000 sheets of paper and 12 black ink cartridges. I printed everything in back and white, but there was a lot of graphics so the print coverage was not great, but I expected that. In the end I spent about $3,000 for the printer and materials and gave $1,000 to the kids for doing the work. I now have a great printer and other equipment that I continue to use. Now about the printer. I was nervous about how the printer would hold up printing that much in such a short time but it worked perfectly. Everything was printed using duplex which adds to the complexity. In the over 30,000 duplex sheets printed, I only had ONE miss fed piece of paper. AMAZING. I did not have one single issue with the printer and it still works perfect. I don't print much color, but have printed 150 work books in color and I have yet to change any of the color toners. I was also very pleased with the speed. Even with the graphics and duplex the printer is fast. If you are looking for a printer I would highly recommend this one.

Good speed and quality, nice little footprint

I bought this printer to make double-sided printouts of order forms, and I am very pleased with its performance. The print quality is clear and even, the machine is very reliable even though I printed over 25,000 sheets on it the first week.

Cons: the paper sometimes gets jammed as it feeds from the tray, and even when you fix the problem and hit the green "okay" button to continue printing, it continues to register a problem until you cancel the job and shut down the printer. Also, the initial toner cartridge does not last very long, it's only good for about 1,000 sheets. The extended life toner cartridges are much better but are pricey at $130 each.

Overall a good machine and worth the money, the double-sided printing feature is a very nice bonus.

Fast, duplex printer but manual feed is weak

The print quality is excellent, and time to first page print from cold-start is very short. I love the duplexing on this unit and the ability to print 2 & 4 up. My main complaint about this printers is the manual feed function. Basically, I think the 1320 has some fundamental design flaws with regard to manual feeds. I can now do envelopes reliably with the method described below, but feeding standard letter-size paper is still an iffy proposition.

The manual envelope feed work-around that I've kludged together is the following:

1) take the regular paper tray out slightly (2-3 inches) so it does not feed from there

2) have the paper path go straight-thru

3) adjust the manual feed guide to fit the envelope

4) send the print job to the printer, and wait for the yellow indicator light to blink before putting in the envelope (feeding the envelope earlier seems to not work)

Great SOHO printer

This is a fantastic printer for the price (currently $250 to $300). It is very fast, very quick to print the first page and the duplexer works well. I think it is quiet and easy to set up. It comes with 2 versions PCL and PS emulation, so it should work well and quickly on any print job. Unlike laser printers of old, adding 128mb of RAM should only cost around $45. I don't have a problem with the 1 sheet manual feed. If you have a lot of pages to print you can change the paper in tray. The next printer (2420) up the line includes a 150 + sheet utility tray, so that is another option as well.

Those of you complaining about printer cables are complaining to the wrong people. All of the manufactures would be happy to include a printer cable. Because the perceived value of a USB cable is around $20 and they cost about $1.50 it is a good deal for HP, Canon, Epson, Samsung, etc. to include them. However, when Epson included USB cables a couple of years ago in their first all-in-one printers, that benefit only lasted one product cycle. The retail people (Circuit City, BBY, etc.) told them to stop including cables or they wouldn't buy AIO's from Epson. On most printers priced below $129, the stores make more money on the printer cable than on the printer.

When you consider that the first hp LaserJet (no number) cost $2495 (when that was real money) printed 4 pages per minute when the wind was right and the stars aligned. It had 2 resolution settings 150 and 300 dpi and had a very tough time printing graphics. Then this printer is truly amazing by comparison. When you buy the 49x cartridge your cost per page will be 2.2cents or less.

Smell

The printer works great via USB and Network. Feels a little slower then the purported 42PPM but the fact that's its quieter kind of makes up for it. But the "feature" that stands out the most and we can't get over, is its very strong odor emanating from the machine while it prints. I hope it had nothing to do with the Particle Emission Characteristics of toners but it happens regardless if you are printing one page or a large batch, the smell is very pronounced. The best description of the smell, is a strong chemical smell. I believe it's generated when the toner is being fused to the paper. We are only using the ORIGINAL toner that arrived with the printer and we tried Staples copy paper and the higher end Hammermill Paper and both samples produced the same results. So definitely from the toner or printer and not the paper When we called HP support, they sounded very surprised and indicated NO odor at all should be present and to return the printer but I think it's model specific. So we'll be shopping around for a better model.

Good solid printer

Have these printer in a few locations at our sites. They work well and we have not had any problems with them. The few locations that were a little slow were fixed by replacing old switches (That needed updating anyway and were slowing down other network applications).

Buy the P2055d Instead

The reason I gave this printer one star is to suggest you buy the HP P2055 instead. At Amazon it will cost you under $100 extra. The P2055 will take the high yield CE505X toner cartridge. The P2035 will not. The high yield cartridge will cost you $130.99 at Amazon. If you buy the standard yield CE505A cartridge you will spend $212 to get the same amount of printing as the high yield. Good, but Jasu, the printer cartridge!

I have had this printer for several months and have only recently been printing stuff on a regular basis. The cartridge says it is good for 2300 pages, and that goes by quickly. The replacement cost is $83+ dollars, which is nearly half the cost of the printer. That is roughly 3.6 cents a page. I suppose this is okay, but $83 seems high to me. Must be fantastic technology involved.

Otherwise the printer works very fine.

Great home printer (using with Mac)

Solid, comfortable printer - nice "office" feel. Load up the drivers and away you go - at least with Mac - and through Airport. Other reviews make a fair point about being a bit noisy - I have it sitting on a fairly hollow wooden cupboard which may accentuate this issue. However for usual home printing regime I can't see this being a big issue for most.

Terrible printer

Do not buy this printer. I read other reviews online that indicated there were problems with a phantom "jam in tray 2" error message but I didn't worry about it since I have never had any problems with HP printers in the past. How wrong I was. The printer worked fine for 2 weeks and then I started getting the same errors. I have spent days (not hours) on the phone and chatting online with technical support and they cannot fix the problem. Not only that - no one is in the US! For this printer, support is in Costa Rica - I find it very difficult to understand them. To discuss problem resolution - it's the Phillipines. The only ones in the US are the sales people. I'm now printing using Tray 1 and manually feeding in the paper. I'm going to try to return the printer and will start over. Save yourself the grief and buy something else.

HP LaserJet 3015DN

Setup is failrly strait forward. The printer is excellent quality. The secret to the HP printrs is before adding to the network, alwaya...always download the latest driver library and update the firmware with the latest firmware available. This really solved the paper jams from the high speed printing. This one has a quite mode that is very highly appreciated from the office workers and the speed to print is 7.5-8 sec which is also a nice feature. The big plus is that this printer is based on current medium frame HP printer chassis which are quite robust. This is in the mid to lower side for the medium business and works great for a 5-10 person office. The print speed is quite impressive and will hold an entire ream of paper. Testing it, I printed several small book size print jobs and finished much faster that expected. The add on of additional paper trays and accessories are plug and play with the correct driver available for download. So far has been very good purchase and if as good as the last midsize HP purchased we will get a good 5 years of solid daily use from this printer.

Excelent Printer

I have bought 2 of these printers for my company and am getting ready to buy a third. I have had no problems with these printers in the last 8 months. They are quick, easy to set up on the network (Active Director with mostly Windows 7 x64 clients). I can't find fault with this printer. I highly recomend it.
