Sony DPP-FP90

I purchased one of these printers as a compliment to my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80. To my surprise and delight the photos that this unit generates are equal to or superior to those I order from the corner drug store. I was REALLY impressed by the quickness of and the quality that it produces. Even more so, the prints are waterproof as the unit applies a laminated surface on the finished photo.
I have, up to now been disappointed with ink jet printers and glossy paper results for photos but with this Sony DPP-FP90, those days are gone! If you're looking for a photo printer and you own a Sony cyber-Shot camera, look no further! GET THIS PRINTER! I chose to get the 90 because of the larger LCD screen and I'm kinda glad I did. It makes a world of difference when wading through pictures on a memory stick.

I JUST RECEIVED THIS, READ THE QUICK SET-UP DIRECTIONS AND WAS ABLE TO PRINT MY CHRISTMAS PHOTOS FOR ALL OF MY CHRISTMAS CARDS IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. THESE PICTURES ARE BETTER THAN ANY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPER I HAVE EVER TAKEN MY PICTURES TOO. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT. YOU CAN EDIT RIGHT FROM THE SCREEN. IT SENSES WHEN IT IS GETTING TOO HOT AND COOLS DOWN ON ITS OWN. THIS LASTS FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS AT THE MOST. I LOVE THIS PRINTER. THANK YOU SONY!!!!

Before ordering - read this

Wonderful printer but a few facts. 1. This model does not have a "tilt" display. It has a fixed tilted display - not adjustable to ones height. The DPP-FP77 evidently does have an adjustable display. 2. Even though Amazon says that "people who bought this also bought" and shows the SVM-F75P ink and paper pack - this pack is not compatible with the DPP-FP67. It does show the SVM-F120P pack which is compatible. 3. You can order this printer (DPP-FP67) now and get it right away (Prime 1-2 day delivery), but Amazon doesn't sell the ink and paper packs for it. I got the printer but will have to wait a week or two for the ink and paper pack to come from N.Y. I borrowed some paper and an ink ribbon from a friend and am impressed with the printer but I think Amazon shouldn't sell a product that they can't support themselves and that claims a tilt display. They even wanted to charge me for returning the SVM-F75 saying that I ordered the wrong item and it was my fault. I had to call them to get it straightened out.

Incredible little printer

Wow. Incredible little printer. I was a little concerned about the DPI but the photos it produces look like film quality and there are absolutely no discernable pixels. Color is fantastic. Like everyone else mentions, beware of what paper you buy. Sony Photo Printer Paper 120 sheets (SVM-F120P/2) works. Note no paper or ink comes with the printer so you have to buy printer paper. Bought it for the kids who love watching the process of adding one color at a time but it's also the best quality photo printer I've ever seen. Of course you're limited to 4x6 prints but instant gratification serves my needs. Easy to set up, easy to use. It comes with zoom and crop features but even if you don't feel like messing with that, all you do is stick in your memory card, page down to the photo you want and hit the print button. Highly recommended.

Beware of the upsell

The printer is fine. But do not go for the upsale "people who bought this also bought". Among the items shown is the SVM-F75P ink and paper pack. This pack is not compatible with the DPP-FP67. I have know idea why Amazon tries to induce you to buy these 3 items together.

Just beware, printer does NOT come with paper or ribbon. Don't be surprised when you open the box and find you have to make another trip to the store before you can start printing. Bad move, Sony. Shame on you!!!

An upgrade from my old Hi-Touch 6PS

I used to own a Hi-Touch Imaging (HiTi) 640PS, which was as good as this in the printing department but lacked in software - but the hiti's UI in the standalone department was especially atrocious, as it would be fussy in the pictures it detected on the flash-based cards, and the final straw came when it couldn't read any of the modern cards anymore. So I was prompted to purchase this one.

The quality of this printer is good. It is based on dye-sublimation technology and that is important. There are cheaper inkjet-based printers for photos on the market - but almost always you can tell it comes from an inkjet through the dotting that doesn't really blend together, or that that the prints are in danger of smearing just from the sweat of a hand, or the ink heads dry out with several weeks/months of nonuse.

Dye-subs have none of those issues and I like it that the photo print packs come with the cartridges needed to print, no extra ink needed. It even prints a clear coat to protect the photo and give it that glossy look. Quality-wise, it's hard to distinguish copies from this machine versus the store.

The screen is also nice and big which makes it easier to handle. I think the UI is rather intuitive and it supposedly handles the BIONZ information from Sony Cameras as to autoretouch the images for you. Although I haven't personally seen any noticeable difference between pictures from my Sony camera or my Panasonic when printed on this.

It makes 4x6 prints. You can get a print pack of 120 for around $30. This was cheaper than my previous Hi-touch.

It reads the modern cards as well. If I had a complaint, it was that the card reader wasn't modular, meaning that when new cards (of much higher capacity or just plain different design) inevitably come out - this printer will be outdated without a way to upgrade it. Like my hiti.

I don't currently see any residential printer on the market with modular card readers though. The ones in the store, the kiosks, look and are reasonably modular. They don't replace the machines, just take out the old card readers and install new ones -- perhaps with a software upgrade to the machine. Oh well, it's a manufacturer-impose limitation of these machines, which you will have to keep in mind.

All in all, one purchase I'm very happy with.

Very good printer

The only limitation I found with this printer is that if you want to have a larger copy of your picture you will have to take elsewhere.
Otherwise, if you are happy with the top size printing of this machine then this will be excellent for you. The quality of the prited photograph is great.
