Squawking

Savannah squawks a lot. A lot, a lot. It is her go to noise ever since she has reached the stage of understanding most of what we say but having little to no verbal language skills of her own. She refuses to learn baby sign. I know she could do it, but instead she squawks and since that noise is so annoying, I give her what she wants. I know, I know that is not going to teach her baby sign, but you have no idea how annoying her noise is. In fact, she is making it right now.

Most of the time she is fine when she is making this noise. She is either mad at Micah for taking something from her, frustrated that she can't reach something, or asking for more food. So yesterday when she was squawking up a storm behind me while I cooked dinner, I ignored her. I just knew that she was insisting that I pick her up, and since I was busy cutting raw chicken into pieces, that was not going to happen.

So she squawked and I cut. I kept saying, "Savannah, you're fine. You're fine," in a very soothing voice while I cut away. Once I was finally done I turned around to see what all the fuss was about and saw this . . .

Yes, that is one of our bottom cabinets. And yes, I did grab the camera (that was sitting right there on the counter) and snapped a picture before rescuing her. Maybe I shouldn't always ignore the squawking.
