I Am That Mom

Tuesday morning I awoke with the thought, "I didn't get candy for Micah's class!"

You see last week Micah brought home a slip from his "school" about the Valentine's Party they were going to be having. They were encouraged to bring a Valentine for everyone in the class and attached was an approved list of candy/snacks. That very day we went to Target and I let Micah pick out his Valentine's.

I completely forgot about the candy.

The next day I convinced myself that he didn't really need to bring candy.

But the morning of the party I was struck with the thought that Micah might be the only one not bringing something. I didn't want him to feel bad. Would a three year old notice that?

So that morning I rushed, rushed, rushed us out the door so that we would have time to run to Cub in -8 degree air temperature with a much colder wind chill before I had to drop him off at 9:30.

We hurried into the store, grabbed a bag of suckers, and raced through the insanely cold air back to the van. I got them loaded in, got myself in, and started stuffing suckers into the already folded and sealed Valentines.

Suddenly I was struck with the thought, "Oh my goodness! I am THAT mom!" I am the mom who realizes it is her child's turn to bring treats/snacks to school the morning that they are due. I am the mom who will probably have to drop my child off at actual school someday and then run to the store to get the supplies for a project that we were supposed to bring.

I am that mom.

This realization didn't really strike me in a bad way. It didn't surprise me either. In fact, it struck me with an amused little smile that acknowledged that I totally AM that mom.

I got Micah to school on time, presented the Valentines to his teacher, and learned that the party is next week.

Yes, I am that mom too.

Yep...I have been there done that! Just think...you are now ahead of the game and the teacher probably thinks you are totally organized and on top of things :-)
